About Me

Welcome! Here’s a bit of my professional background. (Or visit LinkedIn for the bullet points).

I was a high school and college-level history teacher/instructor for 20 years and now work as a local news reporter.

I earned a BA in History from Syracuse University and an MA in History from the University of Missouri-Columbia, where I specialized in early modern European history.

I served as an AmeriCorps volunteer with the Northeast Missouri Community Action Agency in Kirksville, Missouri.

AfterAmeriCorps, I began my career at the Isidore Newman School in New Orleans, teaching AP European History, US History, and a senior humanities capstone course.

Flooding from the levee failures related to Hurricane Katrina in 2005 pushed me north to Moravian Academy in Bethlehem, PA. There, I joined a crew of whitewater adventure and barbeque enthusiasts in the outdoor education program. When not adventuring outdoors, I taught World, AP United States, and AP European history.

I moved to Vermont in 2018 and found a home on the shoulder of Mt. Ascutney. I am now a staff writer for the Valley News, a regional daily newspaper based in West Lebanon, New Hampshire.

I have more than two decades of experience in student advising, academic support, and writing instruction at both the high school and college levels. I love working with students to improve their study and writing skills and to see them gain confidence in their academic abilities.

Feel free to get in touch about academic success coaching; I’m happy to work with students from middle school through college to identify academic challenges and collaborate on solutions.
